Abstract: In this talk, Prof. Schaadt will give a rough introduction to his research topics which center around growth and application of III-V semiconductors. In his lab, they are able to fabricate group III-arsenides and group III-nitrides. They are interested in the basic growth properties as well as the application of these materials in a wide range of topics, such as photovoltaics, optoelectronics, spintronics and UV detection. For instance, with regards to photovolatics, they work on plasmonic effects to guide incident light into wave guide modes in tailored InAs quantum well and dot structures. With respect to nitride structures, they are investigating growth on novel and non-polar substrates and doping with Cu to achieve diluted magnetic semiconductors. Prof. Shaadt will highlight some examples of these works.
Biography:Prof. Daniel Schaadt holds a diploma degree in Physics from the University of Saarland Germany. He finished his PhD under the supervision of Prof. E. T. Yu at the University of California at San Diego, USA in 2003. Thereafter, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Paul-Drude-Institute in Berlin from 2004 till 2007. From 2007 till 2011, he was the head of an independent junior research group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Since November 2011 he is professor for energy conversion at the Clausthal University of Technology. His present research is mainly focused on nanoscale materials for application in energy conversion, sensing, spintronics and optoelectronics.
