Abstract:InAs/GaSb quantum well and superlattice devices have found wide applications in infrared detection and imaging. On the other hand, recent research work has shown that this material system may play a unique role in the fundamental studies of spin-orbital interaction, topological insulator and superconductors, and novel exciton condensates. In this talk I will briefly discuss materials issues, and describe a few examples: 1) Recent low temperature transport experiments have shown robust helical edge states in inverted InAs/GaSb quantum wells, with quantized conductance plateaus observed at temperatures well above 10 K; 2) Several experiments show clear signals of Andreev reflection and superconductor proximity effect in s-SC contacted edge states, indicating highly transparent interface. Such experimental advances have promoted a great interest in pursuing Majorana fermions in a platform built from InAs/GaSb and s-wave superconductors; and 3) It is theoretically proposed that magnetically-doped InAs/GaSb should exhibit quantum anomalous Hall effect where the chiral edge states can be realized without applying a magnetic field. I will try to provide some perspective of the field.
报告人简介:杜瑞瑞,美国莱斯大学物理及天文系教授, 北京大学国际量子材料中心讲座教授。毕业于复旦大学物理系。于1990年获得美国伊利诺大学香槟校园物理学博士学位后,在普林斯顿大学与贝尔实验室从事博士后研究,师从崔琦和斯特莫(同时获得1998物理学诺贝尔奖)。长期从事凝聚态中低温量子输运实验研究,如量子霍尔效应和其他低维系统以及自旋电子学和量子计算的基础问题等,做出了一系列具有重要国际影响的工作。获得1996 Alfred P. Sloan 研究奖;1997海外华人物理学会“杰出成就奖(Outstanding Young Researcher Award, Overseas Chinese Physicist Association OCPA); 2003年当选美国物理学会(APS) Fellow。加入北京大学以来,担任科技部973首席科学家和基金委国家重大科学仪器项目负责人。
